Who They Are

RAINN is a national anti sexual violence organization that operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline in partnership with sexual assault service providers around the country.

What They Provide

The hotline provides emotional support, information about sexual violence, assistance thinking through options and referrals to local services. Support is available by phone, online chat and text. It does not replace ongoing therapy, legal representation, medical care or emergency services.

Who They Help

The hotline is available to people affected by sexual violence as well as family members, friends and others seeking information or support.

Where Services Are Available

The National Sexual Assault Hotline serves people throughout the United States. Local referrals depend on service availability in the caller's area.

Cost & Payment

RAINN describes National Sexual Assault Hotline support as free. Any outside medical, legal, therapy or other service reached through a referral may have its own costs, insurance requirements or eligibility rules.

How to Get Help

Call 800-656-HOPE (4673), use RAINN's online hotline or text HOPE to 64673. You can speak with a trained support specialist about what happened, what you need now and what local resources may be available.

Hours & Response Expectations

Hotline support is available 24/7. High demand can affect connection time. A hotline conversation is generally short term support rather than an ongoing counseling relationship.

Accessibility

RAINN provides English and Spanish hotline access. Additional local accessibility and language options may depend on the service or referral involved.

Documented Accomplishments

RAINN reported helping 460,028 people through its hotline services in 2024. This is a service reach figure and does not represent a treatment success rate.

Important Limitations

RAINN allows anonymous hotline use and says users do not have to provide a name or location. Reporting or safety obligations can apply in limited circumstances when identifying information is voluntarily provided, including certain situations involving minors or vulnerable adults or serious suicide risk. RAINN says hotline calls and chats are not recorded, but browser, device or internet service records may still reveal that a person visited or contacted the service.
