Who They Are

The National Human Trafficking Hotline is a nationwide anti trafficking support and referral service. It is not a law enforcement or investigative agency.

What They Provide

Trained advocates provide support, information, safety related navigation and referrals to anti trafficking and other services. The Hotline can also receive information about possible trafficking situations. It does not itself operate the shelters, legal programs or long term services to which it refers people.

Who They Help

The Hotline serves people affected by sex and labor trafficking and anyone seeking assistance or information about a possible trafficking situation. The service states that all individuals who reach out may seek assistance.

Where Services Are Available

The Hotline operates nationwide. Its referral directory includes local and national programs with their own service areas and eligibility rules.

Cost & Payment

The main telephone number is toll free. Referred services can have their own fees, funding rules or eligibility requirements. Text or internet use may also involve ordinary carrier or data charges.

How to Get Help

Call 1 888 373 7888, text 233733 or use live web chat. You can decline to answer sensitive questions you do not feel comfortable answering. An advocate can help identify options and connect you with relevant services.

Hours & Response Expectations

Telephone and SMS support are available 24/7/365. If web chat is unavailable, the Hotline directs users to call the 24/7 telephone line.

Accessibility

English and Spanish support is available, with interpreter access for more than 200 additional languages. People who are Deaf or hard of hearing can use 711 Telecommunications Relay Service.

Documented Accomplishments

The Hotline reported receiving 50,123 calls, texts, chats and other signals in 2021. This is an activity measure and does not represent the number of people permanently removed from trafficking or another outcome measure.

Important Limitations

Correspondence is described as confidential and assistance or tips may be requested anonymously. The Hotline states that it must report certain circumstances, including disclosed commercial sexual exploitation involving a person under 18 and situations involving immediate danger. Digital communication can also present device monitoring risks.
